We have used King George's Playing Fields to hold our annual Gala Event since 1948 (our earliest record but it could possibly be earlier than that).
The 'Hut' commonly referred to as the 'Air Raid Shelter' has been our equipment store on King Georges Playing Fields since the start of the 1970s which the late Councillor Tom Croft organised. The building itself has had a long history of use by the community being used by Thornton Cleveleys Cricket Club from after WW2 until they moved to their current home in 1957.
Unfortunately on Wednesday 29th June we received a call to advise that members of the travelling community who had set up camp on King Georges Playing Fields had broken into our equipment store. Once they had left the field on Friday 1st July we were able to get into the hut to see just what was missing. Unfortunately the vast majority of equipment has been either taken or broken. We cannot thank the community enough for how they have all rallied around and supported us in this time.
Many members of the community asked if there was a place they could donate to the Gala to keep the event going so we have set up a Just Giving Page. Any money raised will be used to help cover the initial costs of damages done while we are working with the Police and our insurance company to see what can be done going forward.
