A Typical Gala Year

A carnival ride spins in the background behind a fresh donuts sign.

1st Year

January - The last Friday of the month is our gala choosing where it all begins. We usually hold a disco and incorporate the choosing within that - this consists of the children being asked questions by our independent judges.
February
- Parents meetings start with the Queens Committee. Working as a team each retinue group must come up with a theme for their float. Once the theme has been confirmed the building of the float begins. (The committee will provide the basic wooden framework and £200 to complete the float, anything extra or over this amount will need to be paid for by the retinue parents).
March
- During March we have a celebration of the previous years retinues achievements. The newly chosen retinues are asked to attend.
April
- At the end of April our rehearsals for Gala Day begin
May
- Our gala programmes are given out to the retinue members to try and sell and help raise some funds for the gala
June
- Gala day is here!! The second Sunday of the month is our gala day - we will parade around Thornton and make our way back to King Georges Playing Fields to start our afternoon celebrations.
